About Us : |
 |
We are a Derby based charity that distributes furniture to local people who may need help furnishing
their homes. The Project team consists of paid workers as well as volunteers who receive training and
help in finding paid work.
The project is run by a Management Committee and has received funding from Derby City Council, Derbyshire
County Council and the National Lottery, as well as grants from other funding agencies, trust funds and
individuals.
Aims and Objectives
The Project aims to:
- Help people in need in the wider Derby area by providing good quality, recycled, essential
furniture, electrical goods, bedding and clothing, to those referred to us for help from a wide
cross section of community groups, statutory organisations and voluntary agencies.
- Offer practical `hands on' work experience and training in a wide variety of tasks and jobs
such as driving a long wheel base van, navigation and map reading, multi-drop deliveries and
collections, warehousing and stock control, furniture renovation, domestic appliance repairs and
testing, customer service and office systems. Volunteers may also work towards NVQ qualifications
in Distributive Operations and Business Administration.
- Treat everyone equally and fairly, without bias or preconceived ideas.
- Recycle and reuse items to reduce the amount of `bulky waste' being sent to landfill or
incineration. Encourage the general public to donate their unwanted items both to help their
neighbours and the environment.
- Collaborate with other groups and organisations, locally and nationally to raise awareness
of both environmental and poverty issues. Inform and educate about the environmental benefits
of the service.
